BACKGROUND


The annual seminar and Executive Bureau Meeting will provide an opportunity for the UCLG ASPAC members to get together to experience and to exchange range of views with other local government members and from experienced specialist in local government administration. The seminar will bring together the experts and practitioners in Decentralization, Local Government and Sustainable Development from around the world, specifically the south Asia pacific and it will provide a great prospect for learning and exchanges of information and experience to the participants.


OBJECTIVES OF SEMINAR


Seminar is aiming at enlightening the local governments in ASPAC region on:

• Identify the increasing role of local governments in global governance; • Ensure an effective and democratic, effective, innovative local government close to the citizen; • Assess the impact of financial crisis in service delivery of Local Governments; • Promote the financial resource opportunities available for local governments in the region


United Cities and Local Governments supports international cooperation between cities, local governments and their associations, and facilitates programmes, networks and partnerships to build the capacity of local governments. It promotes the role of women in local decision-making, and is a gateway to relevant information on local government across the world.
